Who are we:
Sydney Going Forward is an Inner Sydney community group that formed post referendum from the Sydney for Yes group. We began in May 2024. Our aim is to be allies and friends of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and to help build a stronger community by working hand-in-hand for reconciliation and justice through a range of initiatives, including amplifying First Nations voices, education, truth-telling and community projects.
What we do:
Activities to date include volunteering at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence NAIDOC event, promoting and attending local First Nations events and supporting local First Nations businesses, currently through group outings. We are very much in our planning stage at present. Ideas for 2025 include the development of educational conversation tables at local markets.
We are also making representations to State Government bodies, by meeting with our local MP’s, to keep reconciliation and justice on the agenda.
When we meet:
We meet every second month at the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence (NCIE), George St., Redfern.
