17 Sep 2024: Asia Society presents the “W. Waṉambi Distinguished Lecture” in celebration of the opening of “Maḏayin: Eight Decades of Aboriginal Australian Bark Painting from Yirrkala” at the Asia Society Museum. The lecture is given by Scientia Professor Dr. Megan Davis, former chair of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues and renowned public law expert and constitutional lawyer focused on the rights of First Nations Peoples. The program opens with a welcome address by Yasufumi Nakamori, director of Asia Society Museum and vice president of Arts and Culture at Asia Society. This is followed by the entrance of the whole delegation of “manikay”, remarks about Mr. W. Wanambi by his daughter Dhukumul Wanambi, and the introduction of Dr. Davis by art historian and curator Henry Skerritt. (1 hr., 14 min.)
